Over the past ten years, the CCW Dolls have traveled to Bangladesh, Romania, Mexico, South Africa, Switzerland, Tanzania, Thailand, and several locations here in Oregon. They have been beloved by all and remained a memorable part of the teaching.
When we decided to equip CCW Multipliers with their own toolkit in March of 2020, we asked, “Wouldn’t it be amazing to give them their own doll to teach with as well?”
Several crafty friends of Loom came together to sew six dolls and provide kits for six more. We hoped to continue this partnership and even train sewing projects to make dolls as a business opportunity. Then, due to COVID-19, the Loom team has not been back to East Africa since.
Throughout the past two years, facilitators have run CCS seminars across East Africa – in large meeting halls and under trees, in Swahili, French, Kirundi, and more. Those who didn’t receive dolls in 2020 have been creative, finding locally made solutions in markets or finding ways to make their own.
Two years later, it has been a joy to see this next generation of dolls continue being a key part of the Celebrating Children Workshops and Seminars. As Loom prepared to travel again this year, the Learning Resources team found some of the original IKEA dolls on EBay to supplement the resources of local trainers.
Now, thanks to your help, a new family of CCW Dolls have arrived in East Africa. They will begin participating in Celebrating Children Seminars across Tanzania, Uganda, and more countries as the multiplication spreads!
