Creativity might just be one of the most important skills a teacher has, especially in this season of remote and distance learning. In Loom’s Celebrating Children Workshop’s Facilitator training this Spring, we discussed the role of a teacher and what it means to help students learn. Just like in the CCW, this meant using creative teaching tools like skits, art, and object lessons – including the beloved CCW Dolls.
At the time, everyone expected to be able to host large trainings again by Fall 2020. And while COVID has shut down borders and limited gathering sizes, leaders are continuing to host smaller, creative workshops across East Africa.
See what some of the CCW Dolls have been up to since April:

“Yesterday we had a group of Sunday school teachers from morning to evening and we taught about How to teach, how we learn, and they asked us to present a lesson on how to teach.
“There are so many children over there and there is not any preschool around. The church itself has over 400 children despite those who are not in the church. That Sunday I was given a class to teach and my class had 135 children, Happiness also was given a class to teach and there were over 100 children and we had teenagers and they were 15. We had the opportunity to meet with the children and it was good. Please pray for that community, the children need a preschool.”

“Yesterday I had a great time and ministry in one of the village, together there were 25 people in the class. It was so fun and enjoyable.
We talk about who is a teacher, role of a teacher, how do you cause a student to learn and more. We also had our babies (dolls). Was so good.”

“In September I did a mini-seminar for the women from the Batwa community. It was a powerful teaching for them, from the beginning until the end. We played the “protect the egg” game and all of the eggs lasted until the end without being broken!
The teachings were focused on the first module: God’s intention for the children.
Session 1: Understanding a child in context
Session 2: The circles of protection.
I finished this wonderful training in successful praying together for their children and to be able helping them in all their needs!
God loves children!!!”
Jacinta: Tanzania
“Together we make the difference in the lives of many. It was powerful talking to the pastors wives and leaders on self care and resilience. This was so timely.”
