As we enter 2019, I find myself fascinated by the story of the wise men from the east in Matthew’s account of the birth of Jesus. What kept this small group following a star, doing something so bizarre and unusual – tracking across deserts with limited information – to search for a king?
They entered Jerusalem – the seat of power – and received more information; but inadvertently entered the political intrigue of Herod’s government, setting in motion Herod’s boy child infanticide. Yet in the midst of this chaos and fear, a baby had been born in humble circumstances in Bethlehem. Scripture recounts that the wise men found him, paid homage to the king and were overwhelmed with joy.
At Loom this year, in the midst of political upheaval around the world, we continue to persevere in working with social innovators – the local experts on the ground – to see thriving, sustainable communities. Our commitment is to long-term relationship building, capacity training and development. Thank you for being woven in with us. We look forward to being overwhelmed with joy as we see families restored, children in schools, jobs created, trees planted, clean energy and health care available – the reality of the reign of the King in communities among the most vulnerable.
