South Sudan
DESCRIPTION:
The nation of South Sudan slid into war again in July 2016 and many ministries serving the poor closed down as over 27 rebel groups sprung up –mainly on ethnic lines, fueling longstanding divisions.
As a result of the war there are more than one million South Sudanese refugees in Uganda, most of whom are women and children. Many have fled to Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, Central African Republic and D. R Congo, along with about 2 million internally displaced persons (IDPs). Lotet Julius Agani is leading a reconciliation foundation ministry among these refugees, with the hope that the work will be rolled out to South Sudan when there is a window of peace.
“Without genuine reconciliation, South Sudan will be a fragmented society on ethnic and tribal lines.” he writes. “With reconciliation, we would like to see true unity in diversity among the 64 South Sudan ethnic groups, tribes and languages. Most of the conflicts are caused by struggle for power and dominance. Political and military leaders are fighting hard for their own selfish interests. They don’t have the people of South Sudan at heart.”
PLEASE PRAY FOR:
- For God’s guidance and wisdom for this ministry.
- That God will have His way in the forth coming Peace Revitalization forum that will take place in Ethiopia–that leaders will put the interest of the people first and work for genuine peace for South Sudan.
- For God to provide for the refugee ministry and as they continue to bring hope to these brokenhearted and traumatized populations in the refugee camps.
