The preschool years are essential years of a child’s development. To truly break the cycle of poverty in a community, it requires early intervention in a child’s life. This is why Anne, a Local Expert in Rwanda, has begun a high quality preschool for children from the poorest families. They are using a sponsorship model that includes a community support group for those with HIV/AIDS, and invite the children from this program to attend the school.

“The sponsorship program aims to support the whole family in areas such as healthcare, building of keyhole gardens, water catchment systems, insurance etc,” says Anne. “We believe education has to happen not only at school to raise healthy kids that will step out of poverty and make a difference in their own community.”
