Sustainable Communities in New Delhi
DESCRIPTION:
Lal Kuan, a slum area in New Delhi, India, is an area with high poverty and lack of opportunity. Most children do not go to school, but instead help their parents by working as garbage collectors, carwashers, or helping in shops. Nearby government schools are known for being crowded, with up to 118 students in a class, and teachers who beat the students.
DiLi Trust works in this area to be the bridge between these children and the schools by providing high quality education, teacher training, and personal care for the students and their families. 78% of the students who come to their program from grade 8 or higher still cannot read or write. At DiLi, they not only learn to read and write their local language, they learn English and other skills that will help them get good jobs after school. The team also visits the home of each students to work holistically towards family preservation and thriving.
PLEASE PRAY FOR:
- For the children at the school, that they would be able to access better opportunities and transform their communities
- For the staff and teachers to have wisdom and patience
- For families to know the hope and love of God through this program
